End User Computing & Disaster Recovery

AWS Workspaces and AppStream 2.0 at scale, plus Elastic Disaster Recovery from on-prem into AWS when the datacentre is the single point of failure.

AWS Workspaces AppStream 2.0 Elastic DR Terraform

Virtual desktops are easy to stand up and hard to run well.

We have built Workspaces environments from the bundle and image layer up, prioritised rollout by department, and automated batch creation from a CSV against Active Directory — which took one client’s desktop provisioning from nine hours to about thirty minutes. Where users only need a single application, AppStream 2.0 is usually the cheaper answer, and we have moved clients across to it with Terraform and a CI/CD pipeline.

On the recovery side: Elastic Disaster Recovery replicating an on-prem environment into AWS, tested rather than assumed.

  • Workspaces bundles, images and batch provisioning
  • AppStream 2.0 for single-application users
  • Elastic Disaster Recovery from on-prem
  • Client VPN with Okta as the identity provider
